PROBLEMS
This program was written using the most current version of MicroSoft's
Visual Basic 3.0. All of the DLL and VBX files are provided by MicroSoft.
Each one relates to a special feature incorportated into the program such
as graphics, grids, 3D controls, etc. This setup program copies the
WinFin.EXE file to the directory of your choice. All the other files are
files provided by MicroSoft and are copied to your \windows\system
directory. They are the most current versions available.
The problems you may experience during the installation or trying to run
WinFin the first time are due to your having older versions of these
supporting files elsewhere on your hard disk, which are used by earlier
versions of Visual Basic. For example, after a successful installation
and upon running WinFin, you may get an error message saying you are using
an old version of COMMDLG.DLL. The reason is that when WINFIN.EXE loads,
it looks for COMMDLG.DLL. If you have an old version in your \windows
directory and a new version in your \windows\system directory, the
program will use the first one it comes across in your path. The cure for
this problem is to do a file search for the file named as causing the
problem. You may be surprised to find the same file name in 2 or 3
different locations. The only one you want is the the most current one
which will be in your \windows\system directory. Rename the other copies
to COMMDLG.OLD or if you do not have any programs that run under Visual
Basic versions 1.0 or 2.0, you can delete them. When you do this you may
get another error notice that the file is in use and cannot be renamed or
deleted. If this happens, simply exit windows and you may even have to
reboot. You may have to rename or delete the file from DOS. Remember,
you want the files in \windows\system, so these should not be deleted or
renamed. I know this is a hassle, but the Setup program that MicroSoft
provides has not yet solved the problem.
